Why LKDS exists

Donation is not the conclusion. It is only one chapter of a longer journey.

Donors are often celebrated during surgery and recovery — and quietly forgotten afterwards. LKDS exists so that no donor, recipient or family walks the path before, during or after donation alone. Our purpose is not only awareness, but real support, reassurance and community.

Transplants save and extend lives

Kidney transplantation gives recipients renewed independence, energy and time with the people they love.

10–20 years, on average

Transplanted kidneys do not last forever. Their lifespan varies — which means the need for living kidney donors remains ongoing. Through shared experiences and peer support, we hope to dispel fears and misconceptions surrounding kidney donation, while providing reassurance to current and future donors.

Donation is one chapter, not the conclusion

Donors may continue to face emotional, lifestyle, financial or social challenges long after surgery. Patients and families may still face uncertainty, misunderstanding or isolation. Lived experience matters.

Our Founders

Two donors. One movement built from lived experience.

LKDS was founded by people who have walked this path themselves — and who believe no one should have to walk it alone.

Portrait of Benjamin Alexander Chua (BAC)
"We hope our story gives strength to all parents."

Benjamin donated a kidney to his daughter while pursuing his Master's degree — balancing fatherhood, study and his role as a RSAF senior military expert. His story is shaped by the long-term realities kidney patients and families continue to face.

Co-founder · Donor

"People say that I am very brave, but it is not a matter of bravery. It is because she is my daughter. Some people say it is a sacrifice, but I feel it is a privilege to give my kidney to her."

Wei Yee's journey as a mother and donor reflects perseverance through challenges — and a steady commitment to encouraging others through their own.
